Here at kalalou, we have the pleasure of doing business with retailers and interior designers from all across the country. One of the greatest perks of having such a variety of customers is seeing the different ways they display Kalalou product. When combined with each shop's unique personality, our products can take on a new life. We'll often forward customer e-mails around the office, sharing the awesome ways owners style their stores with Kalalou. So we decided, why not share the inspiration with everyone?
We got in touch with one of our favorite customers, Elm & Iron, and asked them to share a few photos showcasing how they incorporate Kalalou in their store. We were blown away by their response. Their style is a blend of industrial and rustic with a touch of Mid-Century charm. We love how they mix our Botanica flowers and glass pendant lights with antique pieces and selections from various other brands. We hope that you'll draw inspiration from seeing how they merchandise their store. If you'd like to be featured next, please let us know! q & A : elm & iron
What's the Elm & Iron story? We have been in business since October of 2012. Dan Mcclurg was running two other businesses and decided he wanted to try something new! He wanted to learn retail, so he opened Elm & Iron. He started with just one store in 2012 and built a great team. Six months after opening our Columbus location, we expanded it by 1500 sq. ft. In June of 2013, we renovated a building in downtown Powell, OH and opened our 2nd store location. We are currently in the build out process of opening our 3rd store location in downtown Cincinnati, OH. We plan to open that in the Spring of this year.
How long have you been a Kalalou customer? Since the beginning of our store, so about 2 1/2 years.
Who is the Elm & Iron customer? Our demographic is a very wide range of people. Something we like about our store is that we appeal to the younger people that are just moving into their first homes, as well as the older generation that is downsizing their home.
How would you describe your store's style? Elm & Iron is a mix of old and new. We have a lot of industrial and vintage pieces as well as a mix of more modern and stream-lined home decor, accessories, and furniture. We lean on the industrial side for our aesthetic.
What trends are you most excited about for 2015? We have been seeing a lot of arrow type of pieces and copper! Very excited about these trends for 2015.
Where did you find your inspiration? Our inspiration is to be different! We want to create a space that is unique from any other retail store that you walk into. We just brought in a British 1960's Morris Minor Car to display in the store. We're always hoping to leave the customer inspired and seeing something new!

What are your favorite local hot spots in Ohio? Columbus, OH is a big test market area for a lot of restaurants and retailers. It is the home of Limited Brands that includes Victoria Secret and Bath & Body Works. On the opposite end of that it also has some great locally owned places. There are lots to choose from but here are some favorite local spots that the Elm & Iron Crew frequent:
We'd like to say a special thanks to Alethea from Elm & Iron for kindly answering our questions and providing such amazing photos!
